With the spring sports season in full swing, the Boys’ Tennis team is ready for some success on the courts. This year, the new coaching staff consists of Head Coach Josh Werstler and Assistant Coach Nick Ulmer.
At the end of last year, the team lost their number one seed player, senior Bo Comer. This year, junior Christian Boyer returns as the highest ranking player on the team.
A lot of new prospects have also come out to play along with seven senior players on the team this season, six returning from last year. Ryan Hollenbach, Dan McMullen, Jake Braswell, Dan Milloy, Derrick Crawford, Josh Kelly, and Zach Flinchbaugh will all finish out their senior years at Fleetwood Area High School on the team.
“The team is looking promising, and it’s up to the top four to really carry us through the season because doubles is one of the most important parts of our season, especially the post-season,” returning senior Jake Braswell said.
As the season starts and practices begin, the top players will be ranked from one through nine on varsity, and challenge matches will determine who is placed where. Players will perfect their serves and doubles partners will start to learn each other’s techniques and styles of play.
“The team looks decent this year, but I wouldn’t bet the house on a ton of success,” returning senior Dan Milloy said.
With some enthusiasm, heart, and the always necessary focus and concentration, the Boys’ tennis team has the ability to attain some great successes on the court this season. As the new coaching staff and players adjust to the court, there may be many wins in sight.
Matches begin during the middle of March and continue into April for the Flight Tournament and into May for districts. The first match was on 19 March against Exeter, so come out and support the team. Wyomissing just might have something to look out for this year!
