For the second consecutive year, members of Fleetwood’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter will be working in conjunction with Friend, Inc. throughout the next several months as part of the Pennsylvania FBLA’s Partnership with Business project.

Friend, Inc., a non-profit social services organization, provides northeastern Berks County with services such as food pantries, case management, and parenting support groups. Seniors Demi Rissmiller, Bethany Delaney, and Brad Arndt will be taking part in the project, which is aimed at giving participants exposure to the business world while also enabling them to raise money for a worthy cause.

As a part of this task, the group must submit a written report outlining the steps taken to complete the project and what experiences were gained from it. This is in addition to devising and presenting an oral presentation in front of a panel of business professionals at the statewide FBLA leadership conference.

The project efforts will be commencing with a canned food drive scheduled to take place on Friday, 14 October. Deposit boxes will be found in the high school at the main office as well as at the stadium for Fleetwood football’s Friday night match-up against Blue Mountain. Both students and parents are encouraged to donate any canned items, whether it is food purchased especially for the drive or simply imperishable food that may not be put to use otherwise.

“I think that a food drive is the perfect opportunity to donate to a good cause, and it definitely gives everybody, both in school and in the community, the opportunity to chip in and give a little bit back to their community,” Rissmiller said.

Fleetwood’s FBLA hopes to see solid participation in the upcoming food drive.  Participants are encouraging both students and adults alike to donate their time and efforts to volunteering at Friend, Inc.’s food banks, which take place on the third Thursday of each month.
