The school band is a group among Fleetwood High School students that’s likely to stand out. Participants work as hard as they can to be the best they can be. This year, a certain group within the band went the extra mile and earned a special spotlight.
The Wind Ensemble will play at the Pennsylvania Music Educators’ Convention in Lancaster on 19 April, 2012.
“I’m really excited. Last year’s Wind Ensemble was really good. They had an excellent performance. We’re in this convention due to all of their hard work and dedication,” senior band member Margariete Malenda said.
The group was also selected because of the hard work of teacher, Charles , who has sent in tapes to the PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) for the last sixteen years.
“Somewhere in Pennsylvania every year, there’s a festival held for ensembles such as the State Concert Band, State Wind Ensemble, State Chorus, State Jazz Band, State Orchestra, and others. Each year, there is always one extra ensemble picked out of all of the high schools in Pennsylvania to perform as an ‘extra’ in the weekend of performances. This year, out of all of Pennsylvania, we were picked to perform,” senior band member Erin Phillips said.
The Wind Ensemble is a respectable group of students. They rehearse every Wednesday and Thursday after school along with regular band practices during school.
“When we get there, we will play a few songs and enjoy the experience,” senior band member Casey Cavallomagno said.
After sixteen years of hard work and dedication to their music, this has been the first year Fleetwood’s Wind Ensemble has been selected. The Ensemble agrees that having been selected is an honor to everyone involved in the group.
