Do you miss seeing your favorite athletes out on the court? Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Kevin Durant?
Well, you shouldn’t: the NBA lockout is officially over, and league play has begun.
A deal was reached on 26 November 2011 after four long months. The big problem trying to find a new deal was between the players and the owners. Revenue sharing and the salary cap were among the biggest topics of debate.
“I was very upset that there was a lockout, but I also wanted it to keep going because I wanted to see if Lebron James went to football,” Fleetwood High School sophomore Mike Tanis said.
During the lockout, there was talk of players switching to other leagues around the world, such as the Turkish League, Chinese League, and Spanish League. Some big name players such as Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets and J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets went to play overseas.
There was even talk of Lebron James, the face of the NBA, going to play football for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL.
“I thought the whole lockout thing was very, very stupid!” Fleetwood High School sophomore Lauren Fuerst said.
The two sides were so far apart on the terms of the deal at one point that there was talk about not having an NBA season at all.
Although you will not get a full 82 game season this year, you will still get some basketball; there will only be 66 games.
