With our Superfans packing their bags with much disappointment after the boys basketball season, attention turns to spring sports, specifically baseball.
Star player Devin Wenzel returns this season for his final year of baseball. Fleetwood hopes he will lead the Tigers to a successful season.
Wenzel recently signed with the Cincinnati Bearcats to play Division-1 college baseball as a shortstop.
“I’m excited that I got signed,” Wenzell said, “but I have to focus on this upcoming season first.”
The boys’ season last year wasn’t the greatest; they ended up going 3-9 in the league.
Dante Brown, an outfielder, claims the boys need to improve their defense if they want to make a good run.
“We made a lot of errors last year, but we should be good come game time,” Brown said.
That’s not the only thing missing.
“The seniors last year had a lot of negativity,” Wenzel said. “We played scared last year.”
“I think we didn’t do so well last year because we never played a game filled with solid innings worth of baseball,” Matt McCammitt said.
The freshmen grade brings some hot new talent alongside returning key starters such as All-County Shortstop Devin Wenzel, All-Division Second Basemen Micah Storms, All-Division Right Fielder Ryan Cortazzo, and Catcher Austin Stern.
“This year we know what to expect, and we have a lot more experience,” Wenzell said.
McCammitt has faith in the team as well.
“It’ll probably be us and Twin Valley battling it out at the top of the division.
No matter the outcome, Super Fans will nevertheless hit the field cheering boys’ baseball team again.
