The Volleyball season is approaching, and after making history season last year, the team has a lot to live up too.
Last season, the Boys’ volleyball team made history as the first Fleetwood boys team to make it to the second round of Districts, where they lost to York-Suburban. They were also the first team to make it to the Semi-Finals of the Wilson tournament. It’s the biggest accomplishment a Fleetwood volleyball team has ever achieved.
First year head coach Ron Humor led the team to a historic season. Although falling short in Districts, his accomplishments shall be remembered, and the team is hoping for more to come this season.
After losing six seniors, three of whom were starters, the team looks to fill in those spots and try to return to Districts again this year, perhaps even winning the Wilson Tournament. With just two returning starters, setter Miles Ansel and All-County Honorable Mention Danny Lopez, they will need to help the team the best way they can while coach Ron Humor tries to fill in the open positions.
“Spiking and setting are key things we need to work on this season,” Sophomore Ryan Andre said.
Besides the returning players, the team has some new talent on the court. Seniors Mike Laity, David O’Donohue, and John Jaramillo look to fill in some of the spots open in the starting line-up.
Senior John Jaramillo says he hopes to “start outside hitter” and that he is “very excited” for the upcoming season and looks for the team to go pretty far.
With talent returning and new talent coming, the Tigers need to work very hard and show some heart in every game if they want to see themselves in Districts again. With hard work and dedication, the team has the potential to repeat last year’s successes or go further than any other boys’ team before.
