The band Every Time I Die–formed in Buffalo, New York in 1998–is made up of original members Jordan Buckley (Guitar), Keith Buckley (Vocals), and Andy Williams (Guitar), along with Josh Newton (Bass) and Ryan Leger (Drums).

They are considered one of the few Metalcore groups that infuse a good amount of Southern Rock and Math Rock tendencies in with their music. Having released five full-length albums before 2010, fans were rightfully excited when they heard of plans of a new album in works for mid to late 2011.

Their album Ex-Lives was released 6 March, 2012, on Epitaph Records.  This album kicks butt. The guitar riffs are nothing short of amazing, with Jordan Buckley and Andy Williams harmonizing on some of the most technical pieces to date.

There are songs that absolutely change the listener’s emotions, putting the him or her into a trance. One song that does this is “Revival Mode.”

Keith Buckley’s lyrics on this album also kill. Vocally, Keith has always stood out with his style of screaming and his unique singing voice, but this album shows him developing his singing voice more–probably largely due to his involvement in the super group The Damned Things. Keith has always been known to have quirky and sarcastic lyrics, so there is a refreshing amount of sarcasm along with his usual serious self.

If you dig unconventional metal or hardcore music, you should definitely check out this album. It is nothing short of amazing. Everything this band does has improved, there hasn’t been a bad song or sour note since they’ve formed in 1998. If you don’t buy it for the music, purchase it out of respect: Every Time I Die was one of the originals who created what we known as hardcore.
