On March 18th, Fleetwood Area High School will be hosting its quadrennial Health Fair. Students and staffs will have an early dismissal that day, before which they will not attend regular classes.

High School Nurse and Fair Organizer Bonnie Fansler said, “It is important for each student to experience the health fair once while attending school here at Fleetwood High.”

There will be two main presentations for students; they are “Distracted Driving” and “Healthy Dating Relationships.” The driving presentation will deal with what you should and should not do while driving. The relationships presentation will deal with how you should treat others and should be treated in a dating circumstance. This latter presentation will also deal with the warning signs of abuse.

There will also be various other organizations with kiosks set up in the gymnasium. As of right now, there are at least 13 organizations planning on attending the health fair, one of which is the “Make a Wish Foundation.” Fansler stated that there may yet be more organizations attending.

“I think the fair helps students be able to explore health-related areas that they have not in the past,” said Fansler.

Moreover, students seem to be very receptive to the health fair idea.

“I think the issues they are discussing at the health fair are relevant to everyday teenage lives,” commented Jess Hill.

“I think it will be very informational—and a lot better than having class,” noted Acacia Gerhard.

Overall, the health fair has taken a lot of hard work and preparation from Mrs. Fansler, but the end result should be more than worth it.
