Many long-awaited updates will be coming to the Fleetwood Area High School weight room. As many know, the weight room is not currently classified as “modern.” However, due to the hard work of the school’s Olympian Club, there will soon be new additions and revisions to the available equipment.
“Because of our Olympian tournaments, we were able to raise a good amount of the funds needed for these updates,” said Physical Education teacher Susan Cammauf.
Cammauf and fellow Physical Eduation teacher Amy Barnett have planned to purchase several new items, including two sets of dumbbell weights, new bench presses, a new elliptical, and an additional treadmill. To fund the remaining items, the duo plans on applying for grants to supplement continued budget cuts.
Along with the additions, they will also be eliminating some machines, such as the absurd neck exercise device, the broken leg press, the nonsensical abductor and adductor, and duplicate equipment.
In addition, the weight room is reputedly not the cleanest room within the school. Therefore, another necessity that will be implemented is a new organizational method. The new dumbbells will be painted to correspond with a color-coded rack.
“We’re color-coding the dumbbells so that students will have to learn how to organize the weights instead of just placing them anywhere on the racks,” commented Cammauf.
The price of these renovations and additions is still unknown. Cammauf and Barnett plan on buying as much as they can with the money they have already accumulated as well as any pending grants.
