Mary Fullington on oboe, Isaac Moore on trombone, and both Summer Lileck and Laura Schwartz on clarinet have all advanced to Regional Band. Moore and Fullington each added the extra honor of ranking number one on their respective instruments.
There were 55 member of the PMEA District 10 Band chosen for Regional Band, including 19 students from Berks County. The festival will be held March 23-26 at North Schuylkill High School and will be under the direction of guest conductor Dr. Andrew Yosviak.
Yosviak is the director of bands at West Chester University, where he conducts the wind ensemble, chamber winds, and Golden Rams Marching Band. In addition to this, Yosviak teaches both graduate and undergraduate conducting classes. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester University, a Master of Music Degree from Indiana University, and his Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree from Rutgers University. Dr. Yosviak now serves as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician while also composing and arranging music for winds, chorus, jazz ensembles, and chamber ensembles. He has also made approximately 150 marching band shows for about 40 high school bands, 8 universities, and 5 drum and bugle corps.
The next step after Region V Band is PMEA All-State Band, and these auditions will be held at the regional festival. State band is set to take place April 13-16 in Hershey.
