Where were you on Mother’s Day this year?
On May 8th, the Make-A-Wish Foundation held their 22nd annual truck convoy in Philadelphia and the Susquehanna Valley to raise money for the children in the foundation.
For those unaware of what the Make-a-Wish Foundation is exactly, it is an organization that helps make the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions come true. This organization has helped over 250,000 children across the world, and the numbers continue to rise.
The Make-a-Wish truck convoy was a fundraiser to raise money for the foundation. The event is organized by hundreds of volunteers. At the event, there is a variety of activities for mothers to keep their children busy. These activities included face painting, a dunk tank, a dime toss, and a moon bounce, among other festivities. There were also other activities for older people, such as an auction, a live band, stage acts, and strolling clowns–these clowns, however, are volunteers who just want to dress up for a good cause. There was also a skydiver who handed out candy when he arrived back on the ground.
However, the main event of this fundraiser is the truck convoy. The convoy consisted this year of 345 trucks. The trucks were arranged according to how much they raised; the more money the businesses raised, the farther towards the front of the convoy they were. These trucks ranged from tow trucks to tractor-trailer trucks, fire trucks to garbage trucks, and everything in between. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes for all the trucks to leave to parking lot at the Burle Business parking lot. The route of the convoy was about 7 miles long.
All the money is donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The total raised last year at the truck convoy was more than $306,000. If you would like to help out next year, you can sign up by going to www.makeawishtruckconvoy.org.
