On Wednesday May 19th, over 100 Taliban fighters attacked a road construction site in a remote area in Afghanistan. The Taliban fighters wielded heavy machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades, and assault rifles.

The site was located in Wazei Zadran, which is a region filled with mountains in Paktia. This region is right next to some of Pakistan’s tribal areas that have no laws or legal way of controlling the people and civilians. The Taliban did not claim responsibility for the attack, but all signs point towards their involvement.

About 35 of the construction workers were killed, and 20 were wounded. Another 8 insurgents were also killed in this attack. The attack did not end until about midnight after the Taliban fighters took a bunch of the construction trucks for themselves.

“It is a very remote area and there is no police presence there and we are investigating,” said provincial police Chief General Abdul Ghafar Safi.

Luckily for the construction site, they had some firepower after having recruited 65 guards from surrounding villages to watch over the site. The battle lasted nearly 2 hours, ending a little before midnight. This is a very bad situation and shows how ruthless the Taliban can be.
