There is good news for the students at Fleetwood Area High School who are involved in the drafting and technology education department. A grant has been given to the department, which should fund additional opportunities for students.

A local parent recently approached the school and requested the department to apply for the grant through Northrop Grumman, which is the company he works for in Maryland, and Fleetwood was accepted.

Along with $750, the classes will also receive educational materials, a professional presentation on careers in engineering, and a conference for educators. The grant will be used to purchase support materials for the technology classrooms next year, which will be an enormous benefit in spite of funding cuts in Governor Corbett’s proposed budget.

DiscoverE- Northrop Gumman Electronic Systems, the company providing this grant, is an outreach program aimed at heading off the nation’s growing shortage of engineering graduates by encouraging students to pursue programs in math, science, technology, and engineering.
