“It was the best tournament by far.”

That was the only way science teacher Todd Driesbach could describe the Olympians’ club-sponsored school volleyball tournament that was held on 11 November. There were sixteen total teams this year, which was more than the last few years, and this led to an interesting tournament to say the least.

The winner of this year’s tournament was the team Globo Gym, which consisted of Danny Lopez, Edwin Enriquez, Abbey Porambo, Vegas Youse, Darian Feick, Ryan Andre, and (me) Madison Rice.

Globo Gym was made up of all volleyball players, with the exception of Feick. With a skilled team that had a libro, outside hitter, setter, and right side hitters, other teams were shaking in their boots.

Globo Gym defeated every team easily, losing only once to the teachers. Putting the loss to the teachers in regulation behind them, Globo Gym came back in the final game against the Teachers and beat them in both games.

“I would expect [Globo Gym] to win,” history teacher Susan Nagle said.  Nagle was on the teacher team. “All of you are on the volleyball team, and you are, like, 15 years younger than us. And, plus, losing Mr. Heck was bad because he was a key component.”

“Globo Gym looked like they knew what they were doing because basically all of them play volleyball. The only team that didn’t cower in fear was the teachers, who ended up losing to them anyways,” Treasurer of the Olympians Club Kyle Flannery said.

“You guys should win because you all play volleyball,” said Driesbach.  He quickly added, “It felt good beating you once though.”

“It was great, I got really emotional you know, we deserved it.  It was a great win, and I enjoyed the pizza,” Danny Lopez said.

There will be another volleyball tournament in the spring in which students can participate. Globo Gym hopes to see you there.
