Do you want to save lives but don’t want to make it a career?
There’s a solution for that: Donate blood!
Fleetwood Area High School hosts two annual blood drives, and, as long as you are eligible, you can save a life.
To be eligible, students and staff must be at least 17 and weigh 110 pounds. Participants also cannot have gotten a tattoo or piercing within the last 6 months.
There are many types of donations. The most common is that of the whole blood. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how fast it is taken.
Girls, however, must be very careful when donating. Women tend to have less iron, which they need to be eligible to donate. But no fear–many popular foods can give you an extra boost of iron.
For all who are thinking about donating, the night before must include a good night’s sleep in order for your body to function the best it can. You must also have a full breakfast and stay away from caffeine. Another thing to try to accomplish is to drink more fluids than normal.
The donation process is easy: donate and then you get to sit for 15 to 20 minutes and eat a snack.
So, next year sign up for the blood drive and help out Miller-Keystone patients around the area.
Will you save a life?
