Miami Again Favorite for NBA Championship

The NBA playoffs are an exhilarating couple of weeks in the months of May and June. Every year, fans watch to see who will be the next playoff hero, like Michael Jordan or Larry Bird.

The Miami Heat won their second NBA championship last year and are the odds on favorite to repeat. With serious injuries happening to star players such as Derek Rose, Russell Westbrook, and Kobe Bryant, it appears no team will be a match for the Miami Heat.

“I don’t think any team can compete with the Heat this year. They are too good. I believe they will repeat relatively easily,” junior Clay Weidemoyer said.

The first playoff round for the West had matchups between the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers vs. Memphis Grizzlies, Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors, and the San Antonio Spurs vs. the Los Angeles Lakers.

The East had matchups between Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets vs. Chicago Bulls, and Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks, and New York Knicks vs. Boston Celtics.

The Thunder moved on to face the Grizzlies, but because their all-star point guard Russell Westbrook suffered a season-ending injury, it will be very hard for them to move on. The Warriors and Spurs won their series.

Stephen Curry is becoming a superstar with his ability to knock down shots, and the Spurs have a lot of playoff experience.  This will be a close series.

In the East, the Heat and Bulls will play each other, but with the Bulls lacking MVP winner Derek Rose, the Bulls will be no match for Lebron James and the Miami Heat. Both the Pacers and the Knicks won their series.  This could be a close series; it depends on the play of all-star Carmelo Anthony.

“I like watching the Pacers play. Paul George is a very good player, and I believe they can compete with the Heat,” senior Mitch DuCoin said.

The NBA playoffs are always entertaining to watch. No one can predict what’s going to happen, even though most people believe the Heat will end up winning the NBA championship on consecutive years.
