The Champion’s League round of 16 has just begun after a two-month break for the holidays. The two biggest games featured Chelsea vs. PSG, and Real Madrid vs. Shalke.

The last time Madrid and Shalke met, Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid thrashed them in the first leg, 6-1. This year it was not as bad, but Madrid was once again triumphant in a 2-0 victory in Germany. The goals came from Ronaldo and left back Marcelo.

“I think that Real Madrid will win it again,” sophomore Hector Buchter says.

PSG and Premier League leaders, Chelsea, played to a 1-1 draw with goals from Branislav Ivonavic and Edison Cavani. It was quite a dull match besides those two occurrences. It was a match between two of the better teams in the world, who are both in first place in their respective leagues. It is quite surprising that it did not live up to the hype; everyone will surely be hoping for a more exciting match in the second leg.

“The Champion’s League is the most exciting tournament in the world, besides the World Cup.  I can’t wait to see what plays out this year,” junior Hunter Zagorski.

The favorites for this year seem to be the current holders, Real Madrid; Premier League Leaders, Chelsea; Barcelona, Manchester City; and Bayern Munich. It is always a very intense competition, and everyone expects this season to be no different.

On 24 February, two powerhouses met in the first leg of the round of sixteen: Barcelona and Manchester City. This will probably be the most hyped game for the round of sixteen, when Messi and company will meet Aguero and his side. It will definitely be a game to watch as Barcelona is surely the favorite with Messi, Neymar, and Suarez leading the charge. They have been phenomenal as of late, and they hope to carry that into the Champion’s League.
