The Philadelphia Philllies have begun spring training in the same place they have been training since 1948, Clearwater, Florida.
“I’m glad Spring Training is finally here. That just means the season is right around the corner,” senior Tyler Emge said.
The Phillies will be playing their home games in Clearwater at Bright House Field, which ironically is the home of the Phillies minor league affiliate team, the Clearwater Thrashers.
“I have always wanted to take a trip down to Florida and see some Spring Training workouts, regardless of what team I would be seeing. I’d be happy just to be in the environment,” Emge said.
Most baseball fans are aware of the Phillies being in what is called “Rebuilding” mode due to the poor seasons they have had the last two years.
“It was tough to watch, but I’m a very loyal fan, and I’ll stick with the Phillies til the end,” senior Brody Cargen said.
The player that has been drawing the most attention is first baseman Ryan Howard. Howard struggled at the plate last season, batting a measly .223, a huge underachievement for someone who was once the National League MVP and who was once one of the most feared hitters in baseball.
“I’m ready for the regular season to start so I can go see some games and soak in the great atmosphere of watching America’s pastime in South Philadelphia!” senior Lizzay Faust said.
