Former Fleetwood student Evan Santos has set himself up for great success. Santos attended Kutztown University to study public relations and minor in cinema, television, and media production.

While at Fleetwood, Santos was always interested in TV media. He attended classes with Mr. Gaston, including “Intro to TV Media” as well as “TV Media.” Santos enjoyed his time spent at Fleetwood.

“I always had a lot of fun in that class and knew I wanted to work in television or sports in some capacity,” Santos said.

COVID-19 affected Santos greatly when it came to staying involved. Luckily, throughout the summer, he was able to do radio broadcasting and worked in the press box during game days for the Reading Fightin´ Phils. He took on many roles at Kutztown: tour guide, desk receptionist, even working in the athletic department.

Afterward, Santos was able to experience an internship with NBC Sports during the 2022 Winter Olympics.

“NBC Sports had roughly 1,500 people working out of Stamford around the clock. My shift was overnight, as the games were in Beijing, China. I worked 6 pm to 6 am every day for the entirety of the Olympics that year. To this day, February 2022 was the most fun month of my life,” Santos said.

Eventually, Santos earned a position and the opportunity to work on the show “New York Live.” he was able to meet a few celebrities, such as Pauline Chalemet, Penn Jillette from the famous magician duo Penn and Teller, Rascal Flatts, Nickelback, Constance Wu, Mario Lopez, Rev Run, Jo Koy, Hannah Berner, and even Jodie Sweetin from “Full House.” he spent a lot of time with the reporters going to places like restaurants, parks, museums, and historical sites to record segments to air on the show.

In the spring of 2023, Santos took on a position working in politics.

“That’s something I never really imagined myself doing,” Santos said.

Santos worked with MSNBC on Peacock with the Mehdi Hasan Show. He never completely saw himself taking a political route to his career, but he quite enjoyed it because he was able to do a lot for them. Throughout his experiences, he was able to acquire a full-time job with NBC Sports as the Coordinator of Olympic Operations.

Santos has many things to motivate him. Kutztown professors always encouraged him and told him to chase his goals and never give up. Santos continues to spread the same positivity.

“To any high schoolers reading this who are about to head to college, make sure you make good impressions, and never be afraid to ask for an email or a LinkedIn, and keep in touch with people,” Santos said.
