How do you manage time for work and school?
Being young and in school full-time with a part-time job can be hard. Being expected to save money, keep good grades, and make time for friends and family all at once is sometimes an impoosible thing to balance.
Not enough teachers and students take into consideration how hard life can really be. Being this young and juggling so many things at once can sometimes feel impossible, but different people have different tactics, and some try new things to keep themselves on top of assignments and work.
¨Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with school because of the amount of hours I work¨, senior Madison Wily said.
The number of hours a job requires can really mess with school work. Assignments can have points taken off of them for being late, or studying for finals can take an unexpectedly long time. With so many stressful obligations at such a young age and not a lot of time to do it, some parents do not even allow their children to work during school because they do not want it to interfere with their academics.
Other parents want kids to work as soon as possible so they can know what it’s like in the real world once school is over.
¨By the time work is over, I have to stay up late to do work. I’m tired all the next day because of staying up so late to do my work for school,¨ senior Wyatt Dunkelberger said.
Another important factor is the time spent in school. If a teen is too exhausted from the night before, they’re not going to retain anything the next day in classes. By that point, not knowing anything in the class, then homework and other assignments, becomes an insurmountable struggle.
¨I take my homework with me to work to do some on my break so I don’t have to stress too much about doing it so late at night,” Wily said.
Having a schedule with timing when you can do school and work is important. Sometimes it is necessary to tell a boss you need fewer hours or a teacher you need more help. Whatever it is, school should always be first, so don’t fall behind.
