Experiencing bad eating habits can be hard, and there are many different types of eating disorders. It’s important to know how to solve these problems so one’s body doesn’t end up too sickly.
When dealing with an eating disorder, sometimes it may be hard to reach out and ask for help, and there are many places to go so you are not alone. There are many groups to whom one can talk about dealing with the same kinds of issues.
¨Binge eating disorder is the most common eating disorder in the United States. Exact numbers vary, but according to the National Institute of Mental Health, nearly 3 percent of the U.S. population has had binge eating disorder at some point in their lives¨, The New York Times writes.
Many people may not know if they are struggling. Some people believe that they are just simply overweight or underweight and need to be on a certain diet. Without taking precautions and getting help, a person may never know how serious it can be.
¨For so long, they’ve been told things like ‘Oh, this is just emotional eating’ or ‘You’re out of control’ or ‘It’s because you have no willpower’ or ‘Gluttony’s a sin¨, psychologist Cynthia Bulik said.
Some people get told they eat too much because they are depressed or anxious, and although that may be true, some people seriously just need assistance. Whatever groups or care a person can get helps make an improvement to their body and mental health.
An eating disorder may cause serious problems for one’s mental headspace. It’s important to keep in mind that people struggle all over, and everyone is different and important. Helping everyone is the best thing we as a society can do for the whole world. Society needs to make this diagnosis comprehensible so people can get help all over the world.
