On March 8, 2024, Fleetwood Area Middle School held the opening night performance for their production of “Beauty and the Beast.”
Students involved in the musical began preparation for the show in November during audition camp. Once the cast was set, students practiced two to three times a week from December until the weekend of the show.
The show was directed by Mrs. Rebecca Peters. She helped with the creation of every aspect of the show, such as cast schedules, set, costume design, and lighting.
“One thing that was really exciting was having a former middle school drama club student come back and work on our staff this year as our new choreographer. She was cast in the very first show I ever directed, so it was cool to have that full circle moment,” Peters said.
Students who participate in middle school productions can look forward to also participating in high school productions. The middle school productions prepare students for taking that next step in theater.
Eighth grade student Jonah Williams played Gaston in the middle school’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
“Something I’ve learned in the past few years of acting in musicals is how important it is to build a bond with your cast. I have made so many lasting friendships that I hope to see flourish in the future,” Williams said.
The community came together at each performance to support the students involved in the show. As a result of months of rehearsals and dedication from the students, each show went smoothly and received praise from the public.
“My favorite thing was seeing the show come together. I was so impressed with how hard the students worked, their resiliency, and the outstanding support from our community. It was a full house at each performance,” Peters said.
