Eighty years ago, on November 18th, 1930, Fleetwood’s very own Mr. Borrell was born. Since then, he has accomplished many endeavors within this community and Fleetwood Area High School.

For twelve years, Borrell had the tremendous responsibility of being the mayor of Fleetwood. As mayor, Borrell had countless difficult tasks to manage throughout the borough. He was in charge of the police department and the decisions made within it. He was also expected to be at every borough function and manage Fleetwood’s public relations. Borrell could also veto community ordinances, such as a curfew for minors.

After his tenure as mayor was over, his wife suggested that he return to the Fleetwood Area School District to continue his employment. This was after having spent a lifetime working in the Fleetwood community.

“I began working within the school district for the first year of the ‘Smile’ program,” says Borrell. Since then he has been working full-time in the program for five years.

The “Smile” program is a program that helps students with I.E.P.s (I.E.P. stands for “Individualized Education Program”). In this capacity, Borrell aids students with all varieties of special needs.

“I am a para-professional,” says Borrell. This means that he is certified in this specific professional field. “I work as a one-on-one aid with students,” continues Borrell.

Within the halls of this school, Borrell is known as a kind-hearted spirit. He makes every effort to better this school and community to the best of his ability for as long as he can. For this, the district thanks him for all of his hard work. Happy Eightieth Birthday, Mr. Borrell!
