First Red Box Arrives at FAHS

“What’s that red box in the art hallway?”

Many students here at FAHS often hear this question and sooner or later ask a friend. The red dispenser out in the art hallway is actually a pencil dispenser.

About halfway through last year, Mrs. Shelton had the dispenser installed. Since then, over two hundred and fifty pencils have been sold. The proceeds from the pencils go to the yearbook club. This is beneficial in two ways: students who are forgetful can easily get pencils, and the yearbook club acquires necessary funds.

“I’ve spent about four dollars on pencils since it was first placed in the high school,” says Ryan Milloy.

Andrew Moran says, “It’s stupid. It’s in the most awkward spot in the high school. That stupid wall blocks anyone from seeing it. And besides that, no one carries around twenty-five cents. And twenty-five cents for a [terrible] non-Ticonderoga pencil is a complete waste.”

Jenna Dantas agrees: “The pencils look really dumb. I don’t understand why they want high school students to buy pencils with dinosaurs and racecars on them. Like, they act like we’re six.”

Edwin Enriquez disagrees: “I think it’s a great idea. The pencils you can get are really cute. I have one with butterflies on it that I didn’t even write with yet because I think it looks so cool. On top of that, the pencils erase really well.”

While students may disagree with one another, the machine seems to be a confirmed success. Both practical and profitable, the place of Fleetwood’s own red box is undoubtedly justified.
