Time and tradition are two words that describe homecoming weekend in Fleetwood. This year proved to be no different.
The homecoming festivities began on Friday, beginning with a pep rally on the half day. Various games and competitions took place, all of which are part of the FAHS tradition. The hallways were decorated in preparation for the week, and the seniors took the title for the best hallway yet again.
Many believed that the Powder Puff football game was the highlight of the festivities. All of the grades had a team of girls to compete against each other on the gridiron while the guys led the cheerleading squads. The purpose was merely to entertain the crowd by the obvious role reversal. The senior girls won the competition, beating the juniors in the final game.
Later that night was the parade, in which all of the different classes, groups, and homecoming participants were displayed for the community.
“I thought it was a very cool experience, and it was just an honor to be involved,” said Jill Andrews, member of the 2010 homecoming court.
Following the parade was the dance, at which many voiced displeasure in the DJ.
“He didn’t play enough songs that you could really dance to,” explained Jeff Mikitka. “My favorite part of the dance was watching the Phillies and listening to BeEezy freestyle.”
The sports teams strutted their stuff on Saturday. The Field Hockey team beat Kutztown 3-0. Afterwards, Boys soccer tied 0-0.
Later still was the football game, where the team had a disappointing loss of 2-40. At halftime, Leo Rosario and Elyse Ellicker were crowned homecoming king and queen.
