Recently, the Future Business Leaders of America club participated in the annual local competition. Although some did not make it to the state competition, many were recognized, and all were winners at heart. Sophomore Steven Hilborn commented on the competition.

“I competed in the Sports Management event and placed second out of twenty,” said Hilborn.  “It was my first year, and I had a great time at the mall and competing.”

Continued Hilborn, “If I qualify during states, I will go to nationals. If I make it that far, then I will have to study a little.”

Senior Dominick Scatamacchia commented, “I competed in the Mr. Future Business Leader event.  To prepare, you must send in a résumé, have an interview with judges, and take a big test that is about business qualities.  I feel very excited because I am a true business leader.  I’m going to states for Mr. FBL and for the Community Service Project that I worked on with Beth Rothenberger. States is April 3rd– 6th, and I hope I do well, but I will be one of 28 guys competing.”

The community service project that Scatamachia worked on helped Friend, Inc. The Fleetwood chapter of FBLA has undertaken many projects throughout the 2010-2011 school year to raise money for this organization, such as holiday food boxes, penny wars, and a hat day. Scatamachia and Rothenberger will have to memorize a seven-minute slide show outlining the community service project for FBLA judges.

Continued Scatamacchia, “This is my second year that I have competed, and it is also my last year. I recommend joining the club, but you have to love business and want to be a part of its world.”

The FAHS student body wishes the FBLA team the best of luck at States!
