Platypuses are cute little mammals with beaks, beaver tails, and egg-laying skills. Of course, you can tell they are awesome just by looking at them. What most people don’t know is that platypuses actually have their own holiday. National Platypus Day happens every March 5th.
The most popular platypus of our day is Perry the platypus. Perry is the pet platypus on the Disney Channel show, “Phineas and Ferb”, but he is also a secret agent. Perry leads a double life. Under close watch of Phineas and Ferb, he is their loveable, turquoise-blue platypus. But his day job is as a super secret agent fighting against the evil doctor Doofenshmirtz. Doofenshmirtz plans to take over the Tri-State Area almost every day. Most of his plans usually involve something crazy, such as stink cannons or destroying all of the hot dog venders and replacing them with bratwurst venders. Perry defeats Doofenshmirtz every time, and this just proves that platypuses are deserving of a holiday.
The Disney Channel is promoting National Platypus day all over its website and channel. To celebrate this holiday, Perry’s boss is asking for people to look all over the website and try to find Perry.
This holiday is just a fun time to goof off and love platypuses. So wear an “I Love Perry” shirt, or buy a pet platypus. Or, just enjoy the idea that we have a national holiday for a mammal that lays eggs.
