In January, students from Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon Counties gathered together at the Allentown Art Museum to show off what they could do with their artistic minds . Fleetwood students Charlotte Hirneisen and Jess Higo represented Fleetwood at this Regional Scholastic Art Competition. This Annual contest provides students the opportunity to enter their works of art with the hope of winning in different artistic genres.

Hirneisen, who entered a dress made from coffee filters, said, “I got the idea from my grandmother.  The rest of the project was my own ideas.”

Hirneisen entered her project in the category of fashion and won the Gold Key in the category. A Gold Key means the dress was rated at the top of the fashion category.

“I was really excited,” Hirneisen confessed.

Jess Higo participated in the art competition. She won the Silver Key for a painting she had made entitled “Kids at Play”.

“I feel great about winning the Silver Key. It really shows me that my effort paid off,” Higo said.

This was Higo’s first time painting and her first time attempting to represent people. She was inspired by some of the senior boys who played football and basketball at the mall. She took pictures of them playing and decided to make that her subject.
