On Friday, May 13th, Fleetwood Area High School’s National Honor Society chapter held a walk-a-thon in memory of Kathy Price. Kathy Price was a community member who tragically lost her three-year battle with breast cancer on May 6, 2011. Kathy left behind Keith, her husband of ten years, as well as a young daughter, Kristin, and three grown children, Laura Seyler, Aaron Manwiller, and Keith Price, Jr.

The walk-a-thon was held at the Fleetwood Park from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and hundreds of community members came out to show their support. There was a minimum five dollar donation asked of all who attended, and all proceeds went toward Kathy’s medical expenses and funeral costs.

“We really wanted to do something that would bring the community together for a good cause,” commented NHS president, Meghana Patil. “We raised about 2,000 dollars for the family, so it was a very successful fundraiser.”

In addition to walking, all in attendance had the opportunity to listen to music provided by local musicians. 4twelve, Justin Reinert, Ethan McDonnell, Elyse Elliker, Carley Hawkins, and Mike Ruh were the afternoon’s performers.

“I thought it was really great to see all those students and community members rallying around to help a local family in their time of need,” said Ethan McDonnell.

In addition to the music, there were food and beverages that were generously donated by students and local businesses, all of which were available for purchase. Face painting was also provided by FAHS students.

Overall, the afternoon was both memorable and successful. It was a great sight to see so many people out walking to support the Price family as they cope with the loss of a loving mother, wife, and friend.
