A baccalaureate service is a religious event given to a graduating class to honor them. At Fleetwood Area High School, the baccalaureate service is being held on Sunday June 12th, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. It will take place in the auditorium of the high school. All of the graduating seniors and their loved ones are invited to share in the service. The service is normally given by a pastor, but this year music teacher Mr. Charles Ebersole will give the speech.

“Mr. Ebersole knows us better than anyone.  He knows who we were as high school students,” said Elyse Eliker, a graduating senior,.

The ceremony will also include a slide show of the graduating class that covers the entire time they graced the hallways of the district with their variety of personalities.  Dominick Scatamacchia, senior class historian, assembled the slide show.

baccalaureate is an optional ceremony for the graduating class of 2011 and their loved ones.  The service is organized by Pastor Machamer of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fleetwood and the help of the class officers, the senior class, and the FAHS staff.

“Baccalaureate is a good way to say goodbye to the memories we had at Fleetwood High,” said senior Cale Ahearn.

“Baccalaureate is the last chance to enjoy each other before graduation,” agreed senior Jessica Hill.

Baccalaureate is a way to share the good times of high school before graduation. It’s also a good way to help family members who are unable to attend graduation feel involved in this momentous occassion.
