Randy “Macho Man” Savage, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, was pronounced dead early Friday, May 20th. He was only 58 years old.

The wrestler was driving his Jeep Wrangler and had a heart attack at the wheel. He crossed over the median and hit a tree, dying instantly. Randy’s second wife, Lynn Payne, was a passenger in the car but only suffered minor injuries.

Randy was born in Columbus, Ohio.  His brother and father were wrestlers and provided him with his inspiration . Aside from being known for his wrestling success, Macho Man’s raspy voice earned him attention as well. Savage entered the wrestling business in 1973 and retired in 1991.

As Randy Poffo, he played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds in the early 70’s. Aside from having great success in wrestling, including multiple reigns as the WWE and WCW champion, Macho Man appeared as ‘Bone Saw McGraw’ in “Spider-Man.” He also released a rap album called “Be a Man.”

Savage held twenty championships during his professional wrestling career and is a ten-time world champion: a two-time WWF Champion, four-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, three-time ICW World Heavyweight Champion, and one-time USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion. Aside from championships, Savage was the 1987 WWF King of the Ring and the 1995 WCW World War 3 winner.

Many people other than Macho Man’s family are expressing their sorrow regarding his death. On Twitter, fellow wrestler Hulk Hogan wrote,“He had so much life in his eyes and in his spirit, I just pray that he’s happy and in a better place and we miss him.”
