Christie’s Memorable Cakes is a relatively new business featured on Main Street in Fleetwood, a great place to find delicious and custom-decorated cakes of your choice. The owner of this new bakery in town is Christie M. Coleman, a Fleetwood Area High School graduate.

The storefront opened in November of this past year, but prior to this, Christie was operating a commercial bake shop in the basement of her home for two and half years.

Christie is a pastry chef who graduated from Berks Career and Technology Center for Culinary Arts in 2006. She then went on to further her education at the New England Culinary Institute to obtain a degree in Baking and Pastry Arts.

She has over seven years of professional experience in the industry and has worked in many cafes, bakeries, and restaurants in places such as New Hampshire, Vermont, and Pennsylvania.

“Christie was a wonderful student, and I have had her cake at my daughter’s baby shower, my rehearsal dinner, and my sister’s graduation. They were all impeccable,” Zachary Houp, a teacher at FAHS, said.

Some featured cake flavors at Christie’s include traditional wedding white, chocolate, lemon, carrot, spice, and red velvet, just to name a few. Cakes come in all sizes and shapes and can even be filled or iced with the customer’s favorite and unique flavors. Each day at the shop, other desserts and pastries–such as scones, muffins, cupcakes, and cookies–are on sale as well.

“She did a wonderful job with the Harley Davidson motorcycle cake she made for my father’s birthday,” senior Derek Evanosky who said.

Christie was awarded the “Best Decorated Cake” in the Wedding Cake Bake-Off in September 2010 by BerksCountyWeddings.com and the Beverly Hills Tavern.

At Christie’s Memorable Cakes, the main goal is to provide guests with great service by demonstrating a sense of warmth, graciousness, professionalism, and integrity in their work. They strive to have every guest who walks through the door leave impressed and excited to return. At the bakery, their mission is to thank every guest for the chance to serve them and provide happiness through the art of food.

“I appreciate Fleetwood as my hometown, and Fleetwood has treated me well in return. It’s a small town, and it’s always important to give back to your own community,” Coleman said.

The shop is located at 29 W. Main Street in Fleetwood. The normal operating hours are Tuesday through Friday 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Saturday 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., but there is always the option of scheduling an appointment after hours.

Don’t hesitate to stop in Christie’s Memorable Cakes, where they are “Baking memories one cake at a time.”
