Prepare yourselves, London, because the 2012 summer Olympics are coming to you!
The summer Olympics consists of events such as diving, cycling, track and field events, skeet shooting, archery, badminton, basketball, among other sports.
This will be the 48th summer games in documented history. The Olympics usually last over a span of 16 days, including opening and closing ceremonies, and usually take place during the months of July and August.
Some very familiar summer Olympic athletes include Michael Phelps, LeBron James, and Dara Torres. These athletes show exceptional skill in their field and always win numerous medals. Michael Phelps is currently the highest medal winning U.S athlete at the summer games in modern Olympic history, having won 8 golds at the 2008 summer games in Beijing.
As reported by CNN, Phelps is said to be retiring after the 2012 games in London, where he plans on beating his current medal record.
London is currently the only city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times. London has previously hosted Olympic Games two times in 1908 and in 1948.
Whether you’re throwing a huge party or you’re just watching the games late at night by yourself, the Olympics always draw a wide range of viewers and, for a brief time, actually bring some unity to the world.
