A Review of the Gifts of Christmas Past

Each and every year, new toys and other gadgets come out for people to purchase. As always, there is a at least one particularly popular gift that many people buy.

There are many gift categories from which people of different age groups pick. Technology, such as phones, tablets, and televisions, are among the most popular.

Smartphones are very popular amongst teens and adults. The iPhone 5 is the top choice. Overall, 53.3% of smartphone buyers planned to get an iPhone, while 35.3% of buyers wanted a Google Android device, 6.5% wanted a Microsoft Windows Phone device, and 4.9% wanted a BlackBerry device.

Another popular gift is an MP3 player. Apple’s iPods are the top-selling by far. Close behind is the Zune, followed by the Samsungs and then the Androids. People of all ages enjoy music, and they do not want to carry around a CD player.

Children receive the most gifts on Christmas, which is why toys are the biggest category. Legos, Hot Wheels, and Fisher Price toys still remain top-sellers each year. For more than fifty years, they have all been constant competitors in the marketing business.

Surprisingly, gift cards are getting very popular instead of cash. People mostly purchase gift cards for department stores, such as Macy’s and J.C. Penny’s. Gift cards for bookstores, such as Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Books-a-Million are the next popular. Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards are the third most popular.

Apple products take the cake in popularity, but there are many other popular toys too.
