Morgan Shigo signed his National Letter of Intent with Penn State University on 10 February, 2014. The ceremony was held in the Fleetwood Area High School Library.

He signed the letter at 4:00 p.m. The signing was covered by the Reading Eagle and 69 News.

Shigo is a senior at Fleetwood Area High School. He has played sports his whole life, including football, baseball, and track. Shigo played football for twelve years and was captain of the team last year.

After Shigo stopped playing baseball, he picked up his track and field career. Shigo has been on the track team for four years and will be a captain this upcoming track season. All of his hard work has paid off as he signed his Letter of Intent with Penn State.

“It feels pretty good; it almost feels surreal,” Shigo said.

Shigo has been working hard for his track and field career the last couple of years. He made it to Nationals his junior year and is poised to repeat his success this year.

“I’ve always dreamed of being a Division 1 athlete. It’s been a goal of mine for a long time, and all the hard work I’ve put in is finally capped off to sign with Penn State,” Shigo said.

His friends are excited for him also.

“We’ve been friends since elementary school, and to see him sign was just awesome,” junior Tyler Emge said.

“Shigo’s a hard worker, and I’m happy for him,” junior Gary Gabriel said.

Signing a letter of intent is a huge accomplishment that many student athletes only dream about doing. For Shigo, it became a reality.

“I’m just so blessed and not taking any of it for granted,” Shigo said.

When asked about what was going through his head when he put on the hat and was signing, Shigo said this:

“Just don’t mess up.”
