The Fleetwood Girls’ basketball team is looking to have another great season for the 2014-2015 school year.
Last year, the girls finished the season 24-6 and made it all the way to the state playoffs until their season came to an end with a loss to Holy Redeemer.
The Tigers have some holes to fill from last year’s playoff team. They lost one of their leading scorers, Kendra Bamberger, to graduation last year, and their best 3-point shooter, Xiomara Toledo, who transferred to rival high school, Berks Catholic.
Both of these losses will hurt the Tigers, but senior Cyre Virgo thinks they can recover.
Kendra was a great player, but we have other younger players that are going to help in a big role this year,” Virgo said.
Virgo, who is a track and field star and Homecoming Queen at Fleetwood, was one of Fleetwood’s best all-around players last year and expects this year to be even better.
Virgo has a younger sister who is a freshman at Fleetwood. Chanel Virgo is looking to make a case for some playing time this upcoming year.
Fleetwood went 8-2 last season in their league, and they look to be strong again this season.
In their Berks Conference II league, they will play Berks Catholic, Conrad Weiser, Hamburg, Schuylkill Valley, and Twin Valley. All of these teams expect to bring some talent into the table.
With schedules expected to be released shortly, be ready for the Fleetwood Girls’ team to make a run this year.
