Technology education teacher Mrs. Sara Shelton-Sanocki’s room has been invaded by robots!
In fact, Fleetwood Area High School’s resident photography, job search, yearbook, and CAD teacher was recently gifted with these robots.
Her family from Georgia came to visit her earlier this year, and they saw how excited she was about teaching her students. They wanted to “help extend the excitement” and purchased the robots. She had wanted to go to Georgia Tech for college and even spent the summer of her junior and senior years with her Georgia family.
Sanocki received two kits; one is a basic kit that comes with the parts and motors for basic construction. The other is an expansion kit which, according to Sanocki, includes “extra fun stuff like sensors and lasers.”
The kits must be programmed by computer software but can be controlled by an app.
Shelton hopes to soon be able to create a battle box for the robots and maybe even hold competitions between students.
The robots are being built by three students in CAD research and design: Matt Leibman, Matt Shultz, and Logan Silvius.
The robots are LEGO EV3 robots, so they resemble LEGO’s in shape but have motors and transmitters. They also have Bluetooth capabilities for robotics on the go!
“The LEGO Mindstorm’s EV3 robotics kit is the newest, best, and most accessible way to teach your kids or yourself how to build and program robots,” Pcmag.com declares.
“I’m excited about this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where we go,” Shelton said.
