In recent weeks, Pope Francis has been getting a large amount of media attention. This attention, shockingly, is not for his religious teachings.
Pope Francis has been photographed with world leaders twice in the month of May. These photographs were taken with United States President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Fleetwood students were asked their opinions on these photos.
“When I first saw the pictures of Pope Francis with Donald Trump, I honestly thought that they were photoshopped,” junior Leah Conrad.
Pope Francis can be seen looking less than pleased to be there, sporting a pouty face and eyes that look like they are about to roll into the back of his head.
“He’s probably thinking, ‘Oh God, what have they done?’” sophomore John Eric Son said.
Pope Francis can typically be seen with a bright smile, referring back to photos previously circulating of Pope Francis and former United States President Barack Obama.
“Maybe it just has to do with the timing of the picture. We don’t know for sure if he frowned the whole time,” freshman student Leo Ramsey said.
Overall, Fleetwood students seemed puzzled by the recent behaviors of Pope Francis but hadn’t given too much thought to the topic.
