Jayra Chavarria is a Sophomore at Fleetwood Area High School. Jayra is the youngest daughter of Blanca and Jairo Chavarria as well as the younger sister of Byanka. Although this is only her first year in the Journalism classroom, Chavarria aspires to attend New York University to major in journalism, with the career goal of possibly being a magazine editor. This year, Chavarria is looking forward to making new friends and learning more about journalism. Her life philosophy is to go with the flow, and this is reflected in her music taste, which Chavarria describes as “anything groovy.” In her spare time, Chavarria paints and listens to music but believes she is more artistic than musical. Chavarria was born in Manhattan, New York, but moved to Fleetwood in Seventh Grade and has resided in the district ever since. Her proudest accomplishment to date is when she was crowned Spelling Bee Champion two years in a row.  Outside of Journalism, Chavarria can be found in Student Council or playing with her two dogs. Chavarria believes in equality for all and wants to do her part to make a change in the world.
