Fleetwood’s very own high school chemistry teacher says goodbye to the stage and steps down from his position as director of the high school drama club.
Mr. Matthew Biniek has been the high school’s musical theater director for many years. He directed “Into The Woods,” “The Addams Family,” and “Clue” the past three years, as well as many other shows. Biniek is preparing to retire as drama club director.
“I think the last two shows that we produced were the best I’ve directed, and I think that’s a good way to end my directing career,” Biniek said.
According to Biniek, the best part of being director was working with the talented people of the drama club.
“The production staff is amazing, and there was always a great deal of talent in our students, but pulling everyone together to make a show was the best part,” Biniek said.
His messages to future directors and former students are encouraging.
“Don’t be afraid to be flexible in your vision,” Biniek said. “I will always cherish the memories of working with all of you.”
Biniek’s students have similar sentiments to share.
“I will miss his organization and enthusiasm the most. He always puts so much work into the musicals, and it really carries throughout each show,” FAHS senior Laura Menet said.
After he is fully retired, Biniek plans to read more and travel with his wife.
