What a season it has been for Fleetwood Area High School Boys’ volleyball! Just one season after going 1-14, the team clinched a district seed. The boys have found a winning recipe that has impressed many, even exceeding their own expectations.

“The team has progressed leaps and bounds across every metric imaginable. The one year of experience for a lot of the players created a difference like night and day,” senior player Owen Kotch said

Moments of brilliance were shown this season in games against teams like Brandywine, which was ultimately the biggest win of the season.

“Our biggest win this year was against Brandywine after we were able to come back from 2-0 down and win 3-2,” senior player Daniel Alvarez said.

Alvarez wasn’t the only one who had this opinion

“Our biggest win this year was our reverse sweep against Brandywine Heights. We have had some incredible wins, but this was our first statement win,” senior player Andrew Haas said

The early win against Brandywine was huge for the team’s morale, and it was only up from there. The team built a great connection, and things were running like clockwork.

“The chemistry of the team is incredible, considering our time together. Truth be told, we experimented last season with players in various positions and didn’t really have a known lineup upon entering the spring season this year. That being said, our team has settled in and knows one another very well, be it on or off the court,” Haas said.

But to say this season went without any trouble would be incorrect. The team faced setbacks, such as key injuries.

“The biggest challenge to overcome this year was injuries. Our team lacks depth too, so every injury largely impacted the starting rotation, and at various points throughout the season we have had to scramble to simply prepare the roster for the next game,” Haas said.

With the season coming to an end, it has been great to see what the boys have done and become. Because a large amount of the team is seniors who are set to graduate, next year’s players will need some of this year’s juniors to step it up and continue to improve upon this season’s successes.
