Do any Fleetwood students want to spend their time helping others in addition to helping their grades?

Fleetwood Area High School is planning for its annual blood drive.

The drive will be hosted on October 24th in the high school library and will be run by Fleetwood Area High School Assistant Principal, Ms. Jennifer Neiman. The drive is being run in coordination with the Miller-Keystone Blood Center.

Students are able to sign up to donate blood in the main office during their lunch period or by using posted QR codes.

Students can save up to three lives through one blood donation.

In addition to the benefits of knowing you have proved instrumental to saving lives, Fleetwood is also offering various physical benefits to help incentivize students into participating.

If a donor has donated blood four or more times, the donor will be eligible to receive a red cord during graduation to help demonstrate his or her commitment to helping others.

“[I]n Miller-Keystone Blood Center’s service area, high school blood drives account for more than 50% of the blood products we collect and distribute to our regional hospitals,” the Miller-Keystone Blood Center said.

This information only further highlights the importance of donating blood.

“One in four individuals in the United States will require a blood transfusion at some point during their lifetime. This means that every single one of us knows someone who will receive a transfusion. Let’s all help to ensure that blood is available for all those in need,” the Miller-Keystone Blood Center said.
