What does it take to unite the Fleetwood community and students with long-lasting, fun memories? Between September and October, Fleetwood Area Highschool’s Student Council held an array of events inciting excitement for the school year–from dances and senior homecoming court votes to talent shows, field games, and community events.
On September 27th, 2025, many students attended the homecoming dance held in the cafeteria, compete with a DJ, food, and drinks. Many students took photos of their groups in the formal attire required for the event, of which the theme was “Dress to Impress.” Students showed up in dresses, suits, and button-ups of all different colors to dance the night away and hang out with their friends.
At this dance, the “homecoming court” was announced. Homecoming court is a tradition in which students vote for seniors who represent exemplary leadership, kindness, and, of course, school spirit.
“I had my suspicions of being on HOCO court when people from all around the school kept saying that they were voting for me. I had no real expectations up until that point though,” this year’s eventual Homecoming King, Aidan Kidd, said.
Alongside Kidd, the winner of Homecoming Queen this year was Vanessa Ventura.
The week following the homecoming dance was packed with school spirit. Students dressed according to themed days set by the Student Council.
On Friday, October 3rd, many smaller events were held for school spirit. The day started off with the variety show. Students of each grade created and performed dances or skits that went along with their grade’s theme.
“Behind the scenes preparation leading up to the Variety Show is very chaotic. Putting your ideas to real time is a series of trial and errors. It takes a large amount of patience and creativity to make your vision alive,” sophomore Angela Guiguema, who co-choreographed her grade’s variety show act, said.
Later in the day, community events took place in Fleetwood, starting with a lively parade featuring the marching band, floats advertising clubs and sports, and candy for audience members.
“My experience with marching band was pretty good. It’s my first year, so multitasking during the parade with so much going on around me was definitely the most difficult part. My favorite part was being with friends, being around music, and learning so many new things,” sophomore Preston Langley, who marched within the marching band in the parade, said.
“I was excited to be in the parade this year because, as a kid, I’ve always wanted to be on a float or in a parade. It was really exciting! I saw a bunch of teachers from middle school and a lot of kids from school, and also the little ones were so cute,” junior Georgina Paulino, who was on a float handing out candy during the parade, said.
After the parade on Friday at the Fleetwood Park, a small, community carnival and bonfire was held to honor the town. Many people attended to watch the large fire burn down colorfully, eat food, ride the carnival rides, and participate in communal events.
The highly anticipated football game was held on October 4th in the evening, and to our misfortune, the Fleetwood team lost 0 to 37 against the Warwick Warriors.
“My thoughts on the game? Well, let’s just say it was rough. I definitely think next year can be our year with the right mindset and determination,” Langley said.
The traditions of Fleetwood Area High continue to create lasting, positive memories for students each year.
