Fleetwood Area High School named Chase Devlin and Ryan Schaffer as students of the month for February.

Every month, high school staff selects two outstanding senior class students to honor them for their hard work. Students are recognized and appreciated for their in-class and out-of-class communal contributions to Fleetwood. Last month, those two students were Chase Devlin and Ryan Schaffer.

Chase Devlin is a resident of Blandon and is the son of Tricia and Neil Devlin. At Fleetwood Area High, Chase is involved in a multitude of clubs and sports, including Sustainable Students, ASL, Relay for Life, Class Officer, Women’s Empowerment Club, Northern Berks Hockey, Wellness Club, Rho Kappa Historical Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Student Council.

“I cannot recommend enough to get involved with clubs. Many clubs in the high school have been seeing lower attendance each year, but they’re a great way to meet people you might not normally talk to and connect with others who share similar interests. Clubs also give you opportunities to participate in events and be more involved in the community,” Devlin said.

Chase has also dedicated himself to the community by being involved in thrift drives and safe trick-or-treats for Relay for Life and Mini-THON.

For his future plans, Chase wants to attend a 4-year college at an in-state school.

“I stay motivated by reminding myself of the goals I have for the future,” Devlin said.

Chase admires Crush the turtle from “Finding Nemo” because he has mastered the art of “going with the flow,” which Chase wishes to practice in his own life.

Ryan Schaffer is the son of Martin Schaffer from Blandon and Lindsay Folk from Fleetwood. Ryan has been involved in many clubs and activities at Fleetwood, including baseball, basketball, varsity golf, ASL, Sustainable Students, Dart Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Rho Kappa Historical Honor Society, and National Honor Society. Also, Ryan has dedicated himself to the community by volunteering at the Blood Drive, Thrift Drive, and Breakfast Brothers.

“I recommend underclassmen take advantage of their time. Senior year goes by very fast, so use your time wisely! Putting in the hard work as an underclassman will make senior year more enjoyable,” Schaffer said.

Ryan is going to attend Shippensburg University to study finance in the near future.

“A role model is someone who leads by example in a positive manner all the time, not just when people are watching,” Schaffer said.

One person Ryan really admires is Tiger Woods because he has inspired him to give 100% to everything he does.

These two Fleetwood Area High School seniors have a bright future ahead of them thanks to their motivation, kindness, gratitude, and dedication.
