The girls’ field hockey team is looking forward to a promising season this year. Five games into the season, the Tigers’ record currently stands at 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie.

Senior Mallory Christman said, “I think overall we are going to do very well this season. We have both a strong offense and defense that are going to carry us far. We also only have one loss, which is a good way to start the season, and we hope to continue this.”

During the weekend of 22-23 September, the Tigers played in the Palmyra Tournament. The Tigers won the semifinal round beating Greenwood 3-0. The Tigers, however, came up short in the championship round losing to Palmyra 1-0.

Alyssa Delp, a senior and team captain for Fleetwood, remains optimistic.

“This year is going to be super fun, and I think we are going to take division,” Delp said.

If the Tigers continue their winning streak, the girls have a chance to make it all the way to the 2011-2012 state championship. The Tigers hope to go all the way this year since many of the girls on the team are seniors.

If the girls win the championship this year, it will be the first time since 1986, when they won their first and only state title.
