To those that are unaware, the FAHS wrestling team battled it out in a tough weekend tournament that was held on 9 January.

Wrestlers were thrown into a gruesome bracket consisting of AAA state wrestling champ Central Dauphin and AA state qualifier Northern Lehigh.

Wrestlers from Brandywine, Oley, Muhlenburg, and Fleetwood represented Berks County; Fleetwood wrestlers even placed in the tournament.

“My first match [was less than perfect]. I ended up getting a black eye,” Austin Haas said; Haas was able to finish in fifth place. “My weight class is really tough this year; it involves a lot of hard competition from all over Berks County.”

For Eric Dompkowski, this was his first year wrestling.

“Dompkowski really impressed me.  He pinned the first kid,” Haas said.

FAHS seniors weren’t the only ones able to pull out some victories; they were backed up strongly by sophomore Eric Wily and freshman Jared Adam.

“It was hard. High school level wrestling is definitely more challenging than middle school,” Adam said.

“The tournament went well.  All of the four wrestlers look good. I’m so excited for their season!”Mallory Christman, one of the two wrestling managers, said.

As the seniors prepare to give it their all for their last year, the underclassmen sure aren’t taking a break either.

“Since we have  four people, we’re going to end up giving a lot of forfeits this year, but we’re going to work hard,” Haas said.
