On 20 December, 46 brave students journeyed from Fleetwood to Kutztown University, determined to come out on top. Fleetwood’s own FBLA organization went to compete against nine other schools in all aspects of business and triumphed proudly, with many of them placing in all sorts of events.

At the competition, there were 50 overall events in which FBLA members competed. From Word Processing to spreadsheets on Microsoft Excel, Fleetwood represented well, placing high in the ranks.

Patrick Schukraft, a senior, took first place in an event called Parliamentary Procedures.

“It was great fun. We took a test, which was hard, but we came out the best,” Schukraft said.

Among the many other winners were Sammy Sanders, also a senior, who was able to type 110 words per minute to place third in Word Processing; Jenna Dantas, who won third place in Business Law; and Julie Sipos, who took fourth place in Spreadsheet Applications.

Senior Joann Juin encourages all students from Fleetwood to join FBLA.

“It gives you all the business aspects of life,” Juin said.

“You learn a lot about the business world and make new friends.  Of course, anyone entering the business field benefits from FBLA,” Acacia Gerhard said.

Overall, Fleetwoodians did well representing themselves and our school. Twenty  students qualified for the state competition held at Hersey, which takes place 15-18 April.
