Real Madrid Favored for Champions League

The new season is back, and that means the Champions League is too. Last year’s winners, Real Madrid, will be looking to retain the crown this year, which has never been done before.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who became the top goal scorer in the tournament’s history last season with seventeen goals, is off to a flying start in the domestic league with nine goals in four games. Seven of those goals came in the last two games, in which he scored four goals in the last game and three in the game before.

“I think Real Madrid will win it again. They’re an extremely strong team, and they want it just as much as anyone,” sophomore Jeffrey Heffner said.

Ronaldo is not Real Madrid’s only weapon. Another world class player is Gareth Bale, who was acquired last season and had a fantastic year. He scored and assisted a bunch in the Champion’s League and also scored the game winner in the Copa Del Rey final. Real Madrid also has a world class center forward in Karim Benzema and center-midfielders Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, and Toni Kroos. Last but not least, they have a fantastic defense with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Carvajal, and Marcelo.

“I’d like to see Chelsea win it this year, but I don’t think it’s likely,” senior Wyatt Pennsinger said.

It will not be an easy road for Real Madrid, as teams such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG, and Chelsea will be looking to steal the crown. It looks like it will be a great competition this year, with great teams and great players.

Lionel Messi looks much hungrier than last season; a player of his ability can lead his Barcelona team to a title once again. Barcelona has a couple new acquisitions and looks like they have a good chance at winning it all.

“It should be a really exciting tournament, and I can’t wait to watch,” junior Hunter Zagorski said.
