Premier League 2014 Kicks Off

It’s back, easily one of the best leagues in the world, the Premier League, watched by millions and a favorite of many more. The league is led by the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Tottenham.

So far, Chelsea is sitting in first place without even losing a game yet! Diego Costa has been sensational for them so far. He is tied for leading scorer in the league, even after being out a few games, with Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero. Costa arrived at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid at the beginning of this season. Chelsea, who has been looking for a quality forward for the past few seasons after their major signings weren’t stepping up to the plate, made a great decision in signing Diego.

“I would love to see Chelsea win the title this year, if not go undefeated,” junior Hunter Zagorski said.

Manchester United also signed a lot of quality attacking players, including Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao. Although United should have an incredible attack, their defense is pretty shaky. They started off slow again this year in the Premier League under Van Gaal. United was furious with David Moyes last season after the team had a very unusually bad performance for the Red Devils. Surprisingly, they’ve started even worse this season than last.

“The Premier League is always exciting.  You never know what’s going to happen,” sophomore Zach Heller said.

Manchester City is always in the title conversation. Although they may not be the center of attention all the time, they are always lurking at the top. Sergio Aguero is always leading the charge for the city, scoring clutch goals and playing well for his teammates.

Arsenal is looking to hopefully finish above fourth this season, signing Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona, who is having an incredible first season for the Gunners. They also signed Danny Welbeck from rivals Manchester United, who also isn’t playing too badly as of late.

Liverpool and Tottenham have been very average this season so far, Liverpool lost their star player, Luis Suarez, to Barcelona over the transfer window, and another star forward, Daniel Sturridge, is out with an injury at the moment. For Tottenham, ever since last season, the team has missed Gareth Bale because he made the record transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
