Highly regarded as one of the best players ever, Lionel Messi has played for FC Barcelona basically his whole life and his whole professional career. The club offered to pay for Messi’s treatment for his growth deficiency when his family could not afford it. He eventually became the club’s star player and the world’s best player.
He was breaking records left and right, and only really having to compete against rival Real Madrid man Cristiano Ronaldo. The two players have won the last seven Ballon D’ors: Ronaldo in 2008, Messi from 2009-2012, and then Ronaldo again in 2013 and 2014.
Lionel has never really even thought about transferring from the club that made his professional dream come true, but after a trophy-less season and some problems, transfer rumors are all over the place.
First, it was rumored that he may be heading to Manchester City to join international teammate Sergio Aguero.
“I’m not sure that I believe that Messi will leave Barcelona,” sophomore Kale Follweiler said.
The latest rumors have included the Blues of London, Chelsea. The Blues were apparently going to give up 250 million pounds to bring in the magician. Chelsea have been looking to bring in a quality forward to finish off the chances that the team creates.
Before the season, they brought in former Atletico Madrid man Diego Costa, who has proved to be a huge success, as he is second in goals in the premier league just behind Sergio Aguero.
Although Costa is playing so well, they’d still like to bring in arguably the best player in the world to bolster the attack even more and surely win the Treble a few times while he’s there.
It surely would be the biggest transfer in the history of soccer all over the world, and Chelsea would surely be an incredible team that would easily compete for the Champion’s League. Obviously, nothing is set in stone at this point, but, if the rumors are true, the world will go crazy, in good ways and bad.
